Sexual and Reproductive Health and MDGs: from Statement to Action- a Niger overview"

Niger ranks last on the UNDP Human Poverty Index and, despite its efforts, is still far behind to reach the MDG by 2010. At the same time, death and disease due to bad sexual and reproductive health are major public health problems in this country, which has the highest fertility rate and one of the highest maternal mortality rates in Africa. This issue is threatening all efforts that Niger is currently undertaking to eradicate poverty. This is why there is a strong need for local advocates to link reproductive health and the MDGs.

In order to build local capacities on this topic, FCI Niger and local partner NGOs Bunkasa Ged and Youth Leaders Network have developed the publication “Sexual and Reproductive Health and MDGs: from Statement to Action- a Niger overview". It was officially launched in May 2007 in Niamey, with the participation of more than 60 people including the government, NGOs, development partners and the Director of Reproductive Health of the Ministry of Health of Niger.

This publication, written in French, is available for download.
