Director of Global Advocacy

Family Care International is currently seeking a Director of Global Advocacy to lead FCI’s efforts to design and implement global advocacy strategies to ensure that maternal and newborn health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) remain a high priority on international agendas. The Director, reporting directly to the President, will be a core member of the institutional Management Team, which plays a central leadership and decision-making role in the organization.

Key responsibilities of the Director of Global Advocacy include:

  • Providing leadership for strategic planning, development and implementation of FCI’s global advocacy strategy
  • Coordinating the design and implementation of global advocacy strategies with FCI program staff
  • Liaising with advocacy coalitions, and strengthening and building on partnerships with other organizations and agencies
  • Overseeing advocacy to strengthen U.S. government policy and financial commitments to reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health
  • Supervising a NY-based global advocacy team
  • Representing FCI at international forums
  • Leading fundraising for global advocacy activities, including preparation of proposals, budgets, and donor reports
  • Coordinating financial management for global advocacy activities, including budget preparation, allocating and tracking of expenses, and reporting
  • Providing editorial review and input on global issues to FCI materials and documents
  • Monitoring the delivery and impact of FCI’s advocacy activities

The selected candidate will possess at least 7 years experience in global advocacy/communications in a non-profit international organization; a strong knowledge of global sexual and reproductive health and rights issues; an MPA, MPH, or MA with a concentration in international health or development; and familiarity with the global health community, including UN agencies, donors and international NGOs; as well as leadership and strategic thinking skills and experience in fundraising and program and staff management. This full-time, exempt position requires about 30% travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Staff Accountant

Family Care International is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to provide support to FCI’s Finance department. The Staff Accountant will work under the supervision of the Director of Finance & Administration, in a full-time, temporary (with the potential for transition to permanent) position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing financial statements.
  • Processing Payroll, A/P, A/R and C/R; G/L accounting maintenance.
  • Grant management experience a must
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processing expense reports for employees
  • Maintaining vendor and donor correspondence,
  • Maintaining all financial records

The selected candidate will have a B.A. or B.S. in accounting AND 2-3 years of relevant experience with a NGO (solid 3-5 years relevant experience, accepted in lieu of B.A./B.S.), and experience in fund accounting and in year-end and interim financial report preparation with a non-profit organization/NGO. Family Care International (FCI) provides undergraduate and graduate/professional school students the opportunity to work on current, relevant international health issues under the close supervision of experienced professionals. FCI is currently accepting applications for the following internship positions:

Work-Study Internship — Latin America/Caribbean Program

FCI’s program in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is currently seeking a self-motivated student in public health, international affairs, or other relevant field, with excellent knowledge of Spanish, for a part-time internship position during Spring 2012. This position is available on a non-paid basis provided that applicant is pursuing academic credit for this work-study internship. The intern will work on a part-time basis (2-3 days per week) in FCI's headquarters office in New York City. Through this work, the intern will be exposed to a broad range of issues in the field of global reproductive and maternal health, will perform research and draft reports, and will gain an understanding of the essential programmatic and business functions of an international non-governmental organization.

FCI’s program in Francophone Africa is currently seeking a self-motivated student in public health, international affairs, or other relevant field, with excellent knowledge of French, for a part-time internship position during Spring 2012. This position is available on a non-paid basis provided that applicant is pursuing academic credit for this work-study internship. The intern will work on a part-time basis (8-10 hours  minimum per week) in FCI's headquarters office in New York City, participating actively in a variety of fundraising, research, and administrative projects. Through this work, the intern will be exposed to a broad range of current issues in the field of fundraising in the global reproductive and maternal health domain, will perform research and draft reports, and will gain an understanding of the essential business functions of an international non-governmental organization.

Internship — International Consortium for Emergency Contraception

FCI serves as the coordinating agency of the International Consortium on Emergency Contraception (ICEC) whose mission is to expand access to emergency contraception, with an emphasis on developing countries. The ICEC program is currently looking for a self-motivated graduate student in public health, international affairs or relevant field for a part-time internship position starting in January 2012. The intern will work on a part-time basis (2-3 days per week) in FCI's headquarters office in New York City, conducting research, drafting issue papers and website copy, and performing a range of administrative duties.
